Cathy Lane is a practicing visual artist living at the top of Lake Macquarie, NSW Australia. Over the years she has had 4 solo art exhibitions in galleries across Sydney. Cathy's work has been in many group exhibitions and is represented in private collections in Australia and overseas. 

In the past she worked as an illustrator, designer and part-time teacher of illustration and Design. Cathy was also a part-time specialist primary art teacher.

In recent years Cathy has had more time to concentrate on developing her art and art practice. She has been working on these mixed media works and sculptures for the past few years (2020-present) and is continually adding to these series of works.

Cathy's current work is informed and inspired by the the natural environment. Cathy explores experimental techniques and narrative concepts in her work.

Education

1976                          

1 year Diploma. School of Visual Arts, Sydney- Commended.

1978

1 year life drawing classes- Meadowbank Tafe.

1995-1997

18 months attending a Life drawing group at the Blue Mountains Creative Arts Centre.

1997- 2000  4 year degree      

Bachelor of Design with Major studies in Visual Communication with First Class Honours. The University of Western Sydney.

2002- Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training. Meadowbank Tafe.

2021- Life drawing group Wangi Wangi NSW.

 

Vocational experience

Currently- Visual artist & director of family Business:

Since 1986 I have run my own freelance business- Cathy Lane Studios.

1995- 1997- Regularly giving author illustrator talks/ workshops in the Sydney, Blue Mountains and Central Coast areas to primary school children.

1997- Part of an Artists Program ( to encourage and promote art in Primary Schools by using local artists to run workshops.)  I ran workshops in Pastels at numerous schools in the Sydney Blue Mountains areas.

2005-2008 Part time specialist Art Teacher at Arden Anglican School Beecroft.

2001- 2012- 11 Years Part time teacher at Hornsby Tafe in the Graphic Design Department teaching drawing, illustration and design.
